Future Members

Several opportunities are currently available for international students/scholars to join us. A number of projects in energy science, environmental engineering, and social systems modeling are undergoing in the laboratory. Those interested in obtaining postdoctoral research experiences, higher research degrees (PhD, Master of Engineering), undergraduate degree (Bachelor of Engineering) are welcome to get in touch with our research group.
We have also had experiences in establishing double-degree programs as well as visiting research students with our international counterparts. In between 2009-2016, for example, we established double-degree schemes in collaboration with School of Business and Management, the Bandung Institute of Technology (SBM-ITB), Indonesia. Topics covered were waste management, life-cycle assessment, cold supply-chain, reverse logistics, appropriate technology, etc. Therefore, rest assured that have the know-how to treat foreign members of the laboratory.

Undergraduate Students

Selections for undergraduate members are conducted internally to those already enrolled in the undergraduate program of the Department of Industrial Administration, Tokyo University of Science. Those who wish to join the department as undergraduate students are encouraged to check the admission section on the university website.

PhD and Master Students

Prospective students (PhD or Masters) are required to have a good understanding of topics in energy science, environmental engineering, and/or social systems modeling. Prior experiences in relevant research fields are a distinct advantage. S/he will need to demonstrate adaptability to the multidisciplinary nature of the projects. Due to the limited space available in the laboratory, only a few research students will be accepted every year. Those (both domestic and international) with government- or university-sponsored financial funding will have an advantage under physical constraints as such.
Those interested are encouraged to contact Dr. Dowaki to express his/her interest. Then, those who wish to join our laboratory as graduate students shall check the graduate admission section on the university website.

Key criteria

Domestic students –The students should have strong academic track record (including research and write-up) with first class honors. The student’s research and academic background might be in one or more of energy science, environmental engineering, social systems modeling, and related disciplines. S/he is also expected to have at least one published research article in high impact journal of the field.
International students – In addition to the above-mentioned requirements, an international prospectus is expected to have at least one undergraduate degree (for masters) and at least a master’s degree (for PhD) with strong academic and research backgrounds in a relevant field. The students are preferable to have an overall IELTS score of 7 or above with a minimum of 6.5 score in each band.

Postdoctoral Fellow

We also welcome those interested in gaining experiences as postdoctoral researchers in our laboratory. Prospective researchers of any nationality are allowed as long as their research interests clearly fit our research agenda. As postdoctoral fellows, researchers are expected have an ability to work independently as well as in team to interact with other laboratory members. Besides, researchers are expected to contribute to ongoing research projects in the laboratory. Those interested in joining the laboratory as postdoctoral fellows are encouraged to contact Dr. Dowaki directly to discuss their ideas, motives, and plans.
